Privacy Policy

Seen ("we", "our", or "the app") is operated by Paul Taylor. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Seen app.

Information We Collect

When you use Seen, we collect:

Account information: How you sign in: your email address and password, your Apple ID (via Sign in with Apple), or your Google account (via Sign in with Google). We store your email address. Your password is stored securely by our authentication provider and we can't see it. We also store your display name, handle, and avatar.

Profile information: Your bio, if you add one, and how you heard about Seen, if you tell us.

Your library: Titles you've watched, are watching, or want to watch, and your ratings. For TV shows, the episodes you've marked watched and when you marked them.

Things you write and send: Recommendations and their notes, written reviews, comments and reactions on recommendations, chats about titles, and requests for recommendations.

Social information: Your friend connections, the people you've blocked, and the visibility you choose for each title in your library: visible to friends (the default) or private.

Device information: Push notification tokens, if you turn on notifications.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide the core features of the app (tracking titles, friend connections, recommendations)
• Send you notifications about friend activity (only with your permission)
• Improve the app based on feedback you send us
• Communicate with you about important changes

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your information to third parties.

We share information only:

• With your friends. They can see your profile, the titles in your library that are visible to friends, your ratings of them, any reviews you've left visible to friends, and, for those shows, the episodes you've marked watched. They also see your latest activity and roughly when it happened, for example "Watching Severance" two days ago. Titles you've set to private are never shown.
• With anyone who has an invite or recommendation link you've shared. Opening the link shows your display name, the title, and your note.
• With service providers who help us run the app, listed below.
• When required by law

Third-Party Services

Seen uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase for sign-in, our database, and backend services
• TMDB (The Movie Database) for film and TV information. Posters and images load directly from TMDB's servers.
• Expo for delivering push notifications and app updates
• Apple for Sign in with Apple and push notifications on iPhone
• Google for Sign in with Google and push notifications on Android
• Resend for sending account emails, such as email verification and password resets

Each service has its own privacy policy that governs their handling of your data.

Your Choices

You can:

• Set any title in your library to private so friends can't see it (titles are visible to friends by default)
• Remove friends at any time
• Block a user. You and they can no longer see each other, and any friendship between you ends.
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Disable push notifications in your device settings

Account Deletion

To delete your account, go to Profile, then Account, then Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent, and cannot be undone.

Two things are kept. Recommendations you sent stay in the recipient's inbox with your name removed, and your note on them stays. Your handle is held for 90 days so nobody else can claim it, then released.

Everything else is deleted, including your profile, library, ratings, reviews, episodes, comments, reactions, chats, friend connections, photos, and feedback.

Chats are deleted for both people, so the person you were chatting with loses them too.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

Children's Privacy

Seen is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app.
